Word from the Director
Dear Ladies and Gentlemen,
The solemn inauguration of the 28th International Festival of Viennese Music “From Joseph Lanner to Robert Stolz” opens an event that over the decades has become one of the oldest festivals of its kind in Central Europe – a place of consistent cultivation of the Viennese musical tradition and its European significance. And all this thanks to its founder and long-time director Jan Ślęk, who established the festival in 1993. The spirit of Vienna and the spirit of the Belle Époque meet here in a natural way. It was precisely in that era that the music of the Waltz and Operetta achieved its perfect balance between elegance and joy of life, between form and emotion. From the dance-like refinement of Joseph Lanner, through the golden age of Strauss, all the way to the lyrical nostalgia of Robert Stolz – the inauguration repertoire will lead you through a world in which art was a form of everyday culture, and music its most refined language.
I cordially invite you
Bartosz Żurakowski
